It is known to all that Microsoft’s Windows 10 is a free upgrade but what a few might have missed is that the upgrade only comes free to those who run genuine copies of Windows 7 or Windows 8/8.1. But if you are on an older Windows OS, such as Windows XP or Windows Vista, you will need to buy a copy of Windows 10.

A day after Windows 10 officially launched in 190 countries, Microsoft announced the official pricing in India for Windows 10. The Windows 10 Home edition will cost $119 (approximately Rs 7,999) for new users while Windows 10 Pro will cost $199 (approximately Rs 14,999). Consumers can head to the Microsoft Store to purchase it online or can simply head to retail stores in the country.

Commenting on the launch of Windows 10, Bhaskar Pramanik, Chairman, Microsoft India said, “Windows 10 is the best Windows ever. Today, Windows 10 will be available across 190 countries as a free upgrade or with new PCs and tablets. It is more personal and more productive. It’s safer and more secure. And it’s familiar and always up to date. In India, more than 1500 retail stores across the country will help consumers move up to Windows 10.”
