Chinese phone maker OnePlus is planning to release a brand new phone towards the end of this month according to a report in GizmoChina. The new device to be names OnePlus X will be releasing in October in China according to factory sources quoted by GizmoChina.
According to the sources, the OnePlus X will feature a 5-inch full HD display and will house the year old Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 chipset, which was seen in the OnePlus One. This is in like with co-founder Carl Pei’s statement that OnePlus would have only one flagship this year. It also confirms OnePlus’ plans to enter the budget segment ie the sub-Rs 20k segment.
The OnePlus X is expected to undergo a design refresh according to renders. One can see a dual rear-camera setup, a circular finger-print scanner and more pronounced grilles for speakers. The OnePlus X will use the same USB Type-C port that was also used in the OnePlus 2. There in no clarity however, if the renders will be the final design.
The pricing is rumoured to be in the $249 region which comes to around Rs 16,500. If released at this price, and with sensible invite systems, this phone could really prove to be promising given OnePlus’ history. Of course there is competition the phone will face from incumbents such as the Xiaomi Mi 4 and Motorola Moto X Play, among others.
This is in line with what Vikas Agarwal, general manager of OnePlus India had said in an interview with ET Tech, “We’re introducing a new device by the end of this year. Diwali would be the ideal time, but next quarter for sure. It would be a global launch, but India will be the biggest focus.”
